sI’m taking a page out of my friend’s book—thanks Amy! Have you noticed how I steal ideas from your family members?—and make some reading goals. As I write this I’m not really sure where to start, so I guess I’ll begin with those things I didn’t accomplish last year (guilty face).
- Read Les Miserables – Yes, I started, then I got distracted with small things like school and tragedy. This year I’m checking it off my list.
- Read one classic a month – This excludes the aforementioned classic. Please let me know if you have any ideas:
- The Bell Jar
- The Catcher in the Rye
- Fahrenheit 451 (again)
- Slaughter House Five
- Catch 22
- How to Kill a Mockingbird
- North and South
- Finish the series I’m reading – I want to say ALL of them, but I should probably be realistic. Here are the ones I’m thinking of:
- Matched series by Ally Condie
- Need series by Carrie Jones
- Halo series by Alexandra Adornetto
- Fallen series by Lauren Kate
- Meridian series by Amber Kizer
- The Giver series by Lois Lowry
- Wings series by Aprilynne Pike
- Deadly Little Secrets series by Laurie Faria Stolarz
- Last Roundup series by Roddy Doyle
- Robert Langdon series by Dan Brown
- Darkness Rising series by Kelley Armstrong
- Austenland series by Shannon Hale
- Read more non-fiction – I read In Defense of Food last year and I really enjoyed it. Any ideas?
- Read some more books by my favorite authors – I’m thinking Jennifer Echols, Maria V Snyder, Maggie Stiefvater, Lesley Livingston, and Meg Cabot.
- Read books that some of my favorite movies were based on — The Hobbit, The Book Thief, Cloud Atlas (though I didn’t actually watch the movie), The Help.
- Read more historical fiction — Let me know which ones you suggest. I believe I heard something about Julianne Donaldson.
- Read more regular fiction — not sure exactly what. I think In the Garden of the Beasts.
- And start some new series that I’ve heard about:
- Tiger’s Curse series by Colleen Houck
- Divergent series by Veronica Roth
- Attolia series by Megan Whalen Turner
I claim the right to add onto this list over time. If there are any other books I absolutely must read, let me know!
